The UAE’s top court has twice rejected a death sentence issued by several other courts against an Asian man convicted of murdering another Asian.
A criminal court of first instance in Sharjah sentenced the unnamed defendant to death in March 2003, prompting him to appeal the verdict. But it was rejected by an appeals court which upheld the capital punishment.
He then appealed with the federal supreme court (FSC), which rejected the death verdict and ordered a retrial in 2010. A court with a new judge panel sentenced him to death but the FSC again turned down that verdict at this week’s session.
