Franklin DeWayne Alix was executed. Alix, 34, black, was put to death for the Jan. 3, 1998, murder of Eric Bridgeford during a burglary. In a recent death row interview, Alix admitted firing a shot, but said he had not intended to kill Bridgeford. According to prosecutors, Bridgeford's death was part of a 6-month crime spree in which he also committed 3 capital murders, 2 attempted capital murders, eight aggravated robberies, one robbery and 2 aggravated sexual assaults accompanied by 4 aggravated kidnappings. Alix becomes the 5th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in Texas and the 452nd overall since the state resumed capital punishment on December 7, 1982. Alix becomes the 12th condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1200th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.
