A Dallas County jury sentenced Donald Andrew Bess, 61, white, to death for raping and murdering Angela Samota, 20, white, in October 1984. Bess, now 61, is already serving a life sentence for a Houston-area rape. The case went cold for many years until Samota’s sorority sisters asked police to re-examine it. DNA testing in 2008 showed a match to Bess. State District Judge Carter Thompson read the verdict.
