12 December 2010 :
Circuit Judge L. Page Haddock sentenced Rasheem Dubose, 26, black, to death. Rasheem and his two brothers, Terrell and Tajuan Dubose were convicted earlier this year of first-degree murder for killing 8-year-old Dreshawna Davis in July 2006. Dubose fired 20 shots at the house — including the fatal one — in retaliation for being robbed at gunpoint and forced to drop his pants in public an hour earlier by DreShawna's uncle, Willie Davis. Dubose's brothers Tajuane and Terrell also fired into the Third Avenue home and were sentenced to life in prison. Davis, 26, is serving a 30-year sentence for the robbery. Dreshawna was killed while she was watching a DVD in a bedroom with two younger cousins. Separate juries recommended sentences: life in prison for Terrell and Tajuan Dubose and death for Rasheem Dubose. A jury decided 8-4 the death penalty for Rasheem on March 11 (see).
