USA - California. Poll. 41% support death penalty, 42% life without parole

26 July 2010 :

California voters still strongly support the death penalty, but they are almost evenly split when there's a choice of sentencing a 1st-degree murder to life without parole or death, according to a new Field Poll. The survey shows that 7 in 10 voters favor capital punishment. Given the option, 42 % would prefer life in prison without parole for a murder, 41 % would choose the death penalty, 13 % say it depends on the situation and 4 % had no opinion. The Field Poll surveyed 1,390 random registered voters by telephone between June 22 and July 5. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 % points.
