January 8, 2026 - IRAN. Iranian forces kill Kurdish student Robina Aminian during Tehran protests
Robina Aminian, a 24-year-old Kurdish student at Tehran Shariati Technical University, originally from Nowdesheh in Kermanshah Province, was killed by direct gunfire from Iranian government forces during protests in Tehran.
According to information obtained by Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, the incident occurred on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Aminian, whose family resides in Kermanshah (Kermashan), was studying design-related fields in Tehran at the time of her death.
Informed sources told Hengaw that she was shot in the head at close range from behind by Iranian government forces and died from her injuries during the protests.
Reports further indicate that Iranian authorities initially refused to hand over her body to the family. After repeated follow-ups, relatives were taken to the location where her body was being held for identification.
Subsequently, despite ongoing security pressure and restrictions, the family was able to receive her body. However, Iranian authorities imposed severe security measures and prevented any burial or mourning ceremonies from being held at the home of the family’s close relatives in a village near Marivan.
Hengaw confirms that Robina Aminian is the twenty-third Kurdish individual documented by the organization as having been killed during the recent wave of protests across Iran.
