INDIA. DEATH SENTENCE FOR TWO IN BEANT SINGH ASSASSINATION CASE

01 August 2007 :

Jagtar Singh Hawara and Balwant Singh, two of the six convicts in the assassination of Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, were sentenced to death in India. The trial was held in a special court in the high security Burail Jail under Judge R K Sondhi. Jagtar Singh Hawara, Balwant Singh, Shamsher Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and Gurmeet Singh were convicted under Sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. The seventh accused Navjot Singh was acquitted by the Special Court.
