22 July 2010 :

Joseph Daniel Burns, 42, white, has been executed at the State Penitentiary at Parchman. Burns was convicted in 1996 of the Nov. 9, 1994 robbery and murder of Mike McBride, 57. About a dozen protesters gathered outside the gates of Parchman in opposition to the death penalty. Burns becomes the 3rd condemned inmate to be put to death this year in Mississippi and the 13th overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1983. Burns becomes the 33rd condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1221st overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.

24 May 2010 :

Gerald James Holland was executed. Holland, 72, white, raped and killed 15-year-old Krystal Dee King (white) in 1986. He apologized to the family of his victims in his final statement. Holland becomes the 2nd condemned inmate to be put to death this year in Mississippi and the 12th overall since the state resumed capital punishment in 1983. Holland becomes the 21st condemned inmate to be put to death this year in the USA and the 1209th overall since the nation resumed executions on January 17, 1977.

04 November 2010 :

The Mississippi Supreme Court has thrown out the death sentence given to Kristi Fulgham for her role in the May 2003 murder of her husband. In an unanimous decision, the court ordered a new sentencing hearing, ruling the trial judge erred in disallowing testimony of a social worker called during the sentencing phase of Fulgham's trial. The Supreme Court upheld Fulgham's capital murder conviction in the shooting death of Joseph "Joey" Fulgham, at the couple's home. In July 2003, an Oktibbeha County grand jury indicted her and her half-brother, Tyler Edmonds, then 14, for the death. Edmonds was convicted and sentenced to life in prison without parole in 2004, but later was freed after a new trial. Fulgham was sentenced to death on December 9, 2006 (see)  in Oktibbeha County. Prosecutors said Joey Fulgham was shot once in the head while he slept in his home.

09 October 2010 :

A Harrison County jury has decided on the death penalty for Timothy Ronk, 31, white. Circuit Judge Lisa Dodson imposed the death sentence for the Aug. 26, 2008, capital murder of 37-year-old widow Michelle Craite; she also gave him 30 years for Craite’s armed robbery. Ronk had admitted in a letter to his new girlfriend he’d stabbed Craite in an argument, stolen her property, and set her house.

26 September 2010 :

A Harrison County jury sentenced Leslie Galloway III, 27, black, to death for raping and killing 17-year-old Shakeylia Anderson on December 2008. Harrison County Circuit Judge Roger Clark has not set a sentencing date yet.

16 September 2010 :

U.S. District Judge Michael P. Mills has thrown out the death sentence given to Quintez Wren Hodges in 2001 in Lowndes County. Judge Mills, in a decision released today, said Hodges' legal representation "was so lacking" as to render "unreasonable" a later Mississippi Supreme Court decision addressing several factors, including presentation of false evidence and ineffective counsel, during sentencing at his trial. Mills also cited improper and insufficient instructions to the jury about its choices for Hodges' verdict. State prosecutors have 60 days to vacate his death sentence, start new sentencing proceedings or impose a sentence less than death. Hodges was sentenced to death for the July 21, 1999, fatal shooting of Isaac Johnson, 17. Hodges also was sentenced to 20 years for kidnapping Johnson's sister, Cora Johnson, and her baby. Authorities said Hodges was the ex-boyfriend of Cora Johnson and the father of her child. The woman and her daughter were not harmed.

21 June 2010 :

A Montgomery County jury unanimously sentenced Curtis Giovanni Flowers to death. Flowers, 40, black, was convicted  of capital murder in the deaths of four people during a shooting spree on July 16, 1996. The victims were the owner and three employees of the store from which Flowers had been fired: Bertha Tardy, 59; Derrick Stewart, 16, Carmen Rigby, 45; and Robert Golden, 42. The Mississippi Supreme Court overturned three earlier convictions and death penalty sentences — twice because prosecutors referred to all four murders when Flowers was only being tried for one of them and once for racial bias in jury selection. The previous two mistrials, which were held in 2007 and 2008 in Winona, ended with racially split juries unable to reach a unanimous verdict. Three of the four victims are white. 18 March 2010 :

A Copiah County jury unanimously sentenced Erik Wayne Hollie to death. Hollie, 25, white, pleaded guilty to the September 9, 2009 murder of 54-year-old Denmon Ward, a pawn shop operator. Then he asked to for the death penalty.
