September 15, 2024 - IRAN. Second Anniversary of the State-Sanctioned Killing of Jina Amini: Widespread Strikes and Security Forces Prevent Jina's Family from Visiting Her Grave
A widespread strike took place in at least 10 cities to commemorate the second anniversary of the state-sanctioned killing of Jina Amini. Meanwhile, security forces in Saqqez prevented Jina Amini's family from visiting her grave at the Aichi Cemetery, and her parents have been under house arrest since this morning.
According to reports obtained by the Hengaw Organization for Human Rights, a strike occurred on Sunday, September 15, 2024, in Mahabad, Saqqez, Bukan, Divandarreh, Sanandaj, Marivan, Oshnavieh (Shino), Kermanshah,Qorveh  and Piranshahr. The strike, organized by civil groups and supported by Kurdish political parties, was in memory of Jina Amini's death.
Eyewitnesses in Mahabad, Bukan, Sanandaj, and Piranshahr reported that, starting at 2:00 PM, security forces in certain streets threatened shopkeepers to reopen their stores and even broke locks on some shops.
These strikes were held despite increased security in the cities of Kurdistan. Security forces attempted to prevent the commemoration with a heavy presence and restrictive measures.
In Saqqez, Jina's hometown, government forces intensified their presence, including releasing water from the Cheragh Veys Dam to block access to Aichi Cemetery and prevent gatherings. Government forces, particularly the IRGC, were stationed along the road leading to the cemetery, and military helicopters patrolled the skies over the city.
A significant deployment of special unit forces from Hamedan, Zanjan, Tabriz, Miandoab, and Urmia has been seen in Divandarreh, Sanandaj, Bijar, Mahabad, and Bukan in recent days.
According to information obtained by Hengaw, the Intelligence Office of Saqqez has placed Jina Amini's family under house arrest, forbidding them from visiting her grave or leaving their home. Security forces are watching the family's home closely, and threats of arrest have been made against them.
Last year, similar restrictions were imposed in Saqqez, placing the city under de facto martial law. Jina Amini's father, Amjad Amini, was briefly arrested and prevented from visiting her grave during that time.
