IRAN - Organizzazioni universitarie europee sul caso Djalali

March 30, 2021:

In una lettera aperta congiunta, la presidente del consiglio di amministrazione dell'Associazione svedese degli istituti di istruzione superiore (SUHF), Astrid Söderbergh Widding, e il presidente della Conferenza dei rettori tedeschi (HRK), Peter-André Alt, sono intervenuti sul caso Djalali.
I due dirigenti delle organizzazioni universitarie esortano il governo iraniano a revocare la condanna a morte a rilasciare lo scienziato svedese-iraniano Ahmadreza Djalali, affermando che è stato torturato e lasciato senza cure mediche adeguate.
"Il dottor Djalali è in isolamento dalla fine di novembre 2020"
Djalali è uno specialista in medicina dei disastri, è di origine iraniana, ma dopo il suo arresto la Svezia, nazione dove aveva lavorato negli ultimi anni, gli ha concesso anche la propria cittadinanza.
Djalali è accusato di aver passato informazioni riservate all'agenzia di intelligence israeliana (Mossad) per aiutarli ad assassinare gli scienziati nucleari iraniani. È stato arrestato dopo essere stato attirato a Teheran per una conferenza, e condannato a morte nel 2017. Da allora è nel braccio della morte.
"L'ultimo rapporto degli esperti delle Nazioni Unite evidenzia chiaramente quanto sia tragicamente grave la situazione del dottor Djalali. Il gruppo indipendente di esperti ha espresso la preoccupazione che l'isolamento e la negazione di assistenza medica portino alla morte del dottor Djalali, che si pensa sia affetto da leucemia”.
"Le azioni dell'Iran sono giustamente classificate come tortura. Sono sconvolto dal fatto che l'Iran mostri un tale disprezzo totale per i diritti umani e la libertà accademica e stia distruggendo la vita di uno scienziato rispettato. L'Iran deve rilasciare il dottor Djalali ora e restituirlo alla piena libertà o questo porterà inevitabilmente al disastro ", ha aggiunto Alt.
Scholars at Risk ha accusato le forze di sicurezza iraniane di aver torturato il ricercatore. Anche Amnesty International ha riferito di tentativi di costringerlo a confessare.
"È con la massima costernazione che noi, la comunità accademica svedese, abbiamo ricevuto le ultime notizie dagli esperti delle Nazioni Unite sul nostro collega ingiustamente condannato, il dottor Djalali, e sulla sua situazione sempre più allarmante mentre è tenuto in isolamento e privato delle cure mediche, "Ha detto Astrid Söderbergh Widding.
“Siamo scioccati dal trattamento disumano dell'Iran nei confronti del dottor Djalali e dalla totale mancanza di rispetto dimostrata in questo caso sia per la libertà accademica che per la dignità umana. Chiediamo con forza il suo rilascio immediato ", ha aggiunto.
