SOMALIA: MILITARY COURT SENTENCES AL SHABAAB MEMBER TO DEATH FOR ROLE IN SUFI CLERIC KILLING
November 26, 2019: The somali Military Court on 21 November 2019 sentenced alleged Al-Shabaab member, Abdullahi Ali Adan, to death for his role in last year’s killing of Sufi Cleric, Sheikh Abdiweli Ali Elmi Yare in Galkayo. Hassan Ali Nur Shute, the chairman of the Military Tribunal, had to arrive in Galkayo to preside over the hearings and announcement of the court verdict. Abdullahi joined the militant group Al-Shabaab from Qansahdhere in Bay region and allegedly took part in a number of ambushes and attacks against government forces in the South West Region. He reportedly killed a government soldier during the Al-Shabaab attack on the late cleric’s residence in Galkayo.
