MADHYA PRADESH ASSEMBLY UNANIMOUSLY APPROVES BILL AWARDING DEATH PENALTY TO RAPISTS OF GIRLS UNDER AGE 12
December 4, 2017: Madhya Pradesh Assembly unanimously approved the bill awarding a death sentence for convicts of rape and gangrape of children below 12 years of age. "Those who rape 12-year-old girls are not humans, they are demons who don’t have the right to live,” Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Chouhan stated. The Chief Minister added that repeated stalking will be a non-bailable offence and the offenders will be punished. The state Cabinet had last month passed the resolution that awards the death sentence to gang rape convicts has also been passed. The amendment in the penal code to increase the fine and punishment for rape convicts was also approved by the state cabinet. Madhya Pradesh home minister Bhupendra Singh had stated that this move is being taken to curb the rising crimes against women in Madhya Pradesh. (Sources: Times Now Digital, 04/12/2017)
