BANGLADESH: 2 GET DEATH SENTENCE IN BLOGGER RAJIB MURDER CASE
April 2, 2017: The High Court in Bangladesh upheld the trial court verdict that sentenced two people to death over the murder of blogger and Gonojagoron Mancha activist Ahmed Rajib Haider. An Appellate Division bench of justice Jahangir Hossain Salim and justice Md Jahangir Hossain passed the order. The convicted accused are former North South University’s student Redoyanul Azad Rana and Foisal Bin Nayem Alias Dip. The court also sentenced Maksur Hasan Anik for life term imprisonment and also sentenced Ehsan Reza Rumman, Nayim Erad and Nafiz 10 years imprisonment each. The court also fined Taka 5000 each, in default, they will serve six months more in jail. The HC also sentenced chief of Ansarullah Bangla Team Mufti Zasimuddin for five years imprisonment and fined Taka 5000, in default, he will serve six months more in jail and accused Sadman Yasir was sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined Taka 2000, in default, he will serve two more months in jail. On February 15, 2013, Ahmed Rajib Haider was hacked to death near his house at Mirpur’s Palash Nagar in the capital. Later, a Dhaka court on December 31, 2015 sentenced two people to death, one to life term imprisonment while six others to different jail terms for the murder. (Sources: Sun Online, 02/04/2017)
