AFGHANISTAN: MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH BY APPEAL COURT IN KABUL
February 25, 2017: The Kabul appeal court sentenced a man to death who was found guilty of killing his pregnant wife seven months ago in the Macroryan area of the city.
In an open hearing, the appeal court upheld the earlier primary court judgement to sentence the man, Noorullah, to death. The murderer and the family of the victim were present in the court as the decision was announced.
âOn the charge of killing your wife, and her child and in terms of line two of article 22 of the non-violence act against women, and according to line seven of article 395 of criminal code, you are sentenced to death,â said Merajuddin Meraj, head of Kabul appeal court.
The brother of the victim, Merwais, and the case prosecutor, Obaidullah Samsor, said the child of the victim also was died when the mother was killed.
âHe confessed that he fired three times at his wife and caused her death,â, the prosecutor said.
âThat night Noorullah was in our house. He said to his wife that they had to talk. But when his wife wanted to go out of the room, he fired at her three times and she, along with her child, were killed,â said Merwais, brother of the victim.
Noorullah said he was not in good mental health when he attacked his wife. He is now regretful of what he had done.
âI did not have any problem with my wife. I did not understand how it happened, God knows that I did not understand how it happened,â he said.
The appeal court also said officials of Kabul Ninth Police Station (PD9) should be investigated by judicial departments, because they did not submit the weapon of the murderer.
