NIGERIA: 2 SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR DEFILING TEENAGE GIRL TO DEATH
February 12, 2014: In Nigeria, an Osogbo (Osun State) High Court sentenced two young men to death by hanging for raping a 14-year-old girl, Bilikisu Adeyemi, to death.
The convicts â Suraju Olarewaju, 20, and Lekan Olatayo, 20 â, whose addresses are unknown, were arraigned in 2005 on a two-count charge of conspiracy and murder.
In her judgment, Justice R.A. Shiyanbola, said the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubts and sentenced the duo to death by hanging.
She said the men had contravened Sections 319 (1) and 324 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2004.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Mrs Folashade Adekanmi, had told the court that the convicts committed the offences on June 1, 2005 at Abesu area of Osogbo.
She said the convicts blocked the nose of the deceased with a loaf of bread while defiling her at about midnight.
