CHINA: COUNTERFEITER SENTENCED TO DEATH
June 21, 2011: the Intermediate People's Court of the city of Hengyang in China's Hunan Province sentenced Zhang Liangcheng to death for forging Chinese currency with a total value of 195 million yuan ($30 million), between 2009 and 2010, the court said in a statement. All Liangcheng's personal property was confiscated and he was deprived of political rights.
The court said in their verdict that Zhang's conduct was "extremely grave" and posed extreme harm to society. (Sources: China Daily, 23/06/2011)
