CHINA. TWO PEOPLE SENTENCED TO DEATH IN INNER MONGOLIA
January 17, 2006: an Inner Mongolia court sentenced a college president to death for hiring a man to kill his former employee. Zhang Mingde, 52, then president of an open university in Hohhot, had reportedly had an argument with a teacher identified as Wu.
Wu resigned and worked at another profit-oriented training school. He promoted the new employer's business by claiming the courses were offered by Zhang's school. Zhang gave 200,000 yuan (US$ 24,700) to Wang Yunhong, who murdered Wu in 2001. Wang was also sentenced to death. They received a two-year reprieve. (Sources: www.shanghaidaily.com, 17/01/2006)
