YEMEN. TWO MEN SENTENCED TO DEATH OVER FALSE PLOT

18 February 2008 :

A Yemeni state security court sentenced two men to death for passing on false information to Egyptian diplomats wrongly alleging a terror plot against Egypt financed by some Gulf Arab nations.
The court said the men had given the Egyptian Embassy in Sana’a the fake document on an agreement between Yemen, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia to finance and train a militant group to attack Egypt.
The court said that Hamad Ali Al Dhahook, 50, and Abdul Aziz Al Hatbani, 45, had harmed Yemen's political and diplomatic ties with some Gulf countries.
The two defendants denied the charge, saying it was fabricated.
Al-Dhahouk told the court he got the report from the archive of the Saudi cabinet and that he was a brigadier general in the Saudi army before he was dismissed in 1998.
