YEMEN: HOUTHI COURT SENTENCES MAN TO DEATH BY CRUCIFIXION, ORDERS HIS BODY TO BE PUT ON DISPLAY FOR 2 DAYS

The Sana’a Criminal Court, affiliated to Al Houthi militia, sentenced a Yemeni man to death by crucifixion and has ordered that his body be put on public display for assassinating the Al Houthi representative to the National Dialogue conference in 2014, Gulf News reported on 30 June 2021.
According to Al Houthi media, the court ordered that Majdi Abdul Karim Al Mutawakkil be crucified and put on display for two days at the 70 Square in Sana'a for killing prominent academic Dr. Ahmed Sharaf Al Deen, who was the Houthi representative at the national conference.
The court also convicted Al Mutawakkil of plotting to assassinate three Houthi officers as well as of belonging to Al Qaida.
Dr. Sharaf Al Deen, a law professor was shot dead on 21 January 2014 as he drove from his house in Sana'a to the hotel where the National Dialogue conference was held. He was the second Houthi envoy to the talks to be killed.
