the High Court in Bangladesh revised the death sentence

04 December 2013 :

the High Court in Bangladesh revised the death sentence for five convicted in the murder of the owner of Purabi Jewellers’ son Turza Ghosh. Two were given life sentence, two seven year in jail and one other was acquitted of all charges. Bench of Justice Md Abdul Hye and Justice Krishna Debnath revised the prior lower court verdict and pronounced a lighter sentence. Life sentence was given for Shahadat Hossain Liton and his brother Al Mamun. Abu Sayeed and Shamsun Nahar Shewly were given seven year of jail time. Farhad Alam Hira was acquitted. In October 2006, Turza Ghosh, son of Jagannath Ghosh, was abducted for a Tk10m ransom. His father Jagannath Ghosh filed an abduction case after not getting his son back despite having cleared the ransom amount. In December that year, Rapid Action Battalion found the mutilated body of Turza. This changed the abduction suit to a murder case.
