the Palestinian Authority executed Raed al-Mughrabi, a 32 year old convicted murderer, in Gaza City's central prison. Mughrabi had been convicted of murder and robbery in 2001 and the execution was approved by President Mahmoud Abbas.In its statement on the hanging, the Palestinian Authority said Mughrabi's case had gone through "all legal procedures" and he was tried and executed "in accordance with criminal law and Islamic law".
