ITALY. HANDS OFF CAIN WELCOMES FOREIGN MINISTER’S COMMITMENT IN ABOLISHMENT OF DEATH PENALTY

Italy’s Foreign Minister Massimo D’Alema

15 June 2006 :

Hands Off Cain appreciates the announcement made today by Italy’s Foreign Minister Massimo D’Alema who, whilst expounding the guidelines for Italy’s foreign policy, reaffirmed Italy’s commitments for the abolition of the death penalty worldwide.
Elisabetta Zamparutti, responsible for Hands Off Cain’s UN campaign, stated:
“The words expressed by Foreign Minister Massimo D’Alema confirm, following those of Prime Minister Prodi, the care and attention the government has for the abolition of the death penalty. It is now a case of taking those political and diplomatic steps necessary for the presentation and approval of a resolution for a moratorium on capital executions already from the next UN General Assembly. The battle started 13 years ago by Hands Off Cain and the Transnational Radical Party could then reach its objective of conquering a new human right: to not be killed at the hands of the state”.
