IRAN: HANDS OFF CAIN, THE DEATH PENALTY AT DJALALI CONFIRMS THE OBSCURANTIST NATURE OF THE REGIME

23 October 2017 :

About the death sentence of Ahmadreza Djalali, the Iranian physician who worked in Italy at the CRIMEDIM in Novara (Research Center in Emergency and Disaster Medicine) and was arrested in Tehran in April 2016 on charges of being a spy, Hands off Cain said:
"The news that doctor and researcher Ahmadreza Djalali was sentenced to death confirms the obscurantist nature of the Iranian regime, where the executioner works at full speed if we think that this year, at the end of September, there were already 456 people on the scaffold according to Human Rights Monitor.
Iran silences human rights activists, lawyers, artists, intellectuals, not to mention dissidents or minority members, and now, by sentencing Ahmadreza Djalali to death, it also affects the world of scientific research.
This sentence reminds us that the struggle for the abolition of the death penalty in totalitarian countries like Iran is, first and foremost, a struggle for the full affirmation of the State of Law, and we appeal to the Italian Government to put the question of respect for the human rights and the liberation of Djalali as a priority request in its relations with Iran.
