the European Union expressed concern about the death sentence that was imposed on Vasil Yazepchuk by the Brest Regional Court on June 29, 2009, in Belarus. “We urge Belarus to abolish death penalty and, as a first step, to introduce a moratorium,” the EU says in a statement issued in response to a report delivered by Ambassador Hans-Jochen Schmidt.
A Nigerian court on Tuesday sentenced a Chinese national to death after finding him guilty of killing his girlfriend, a government official told The Associated Press, vowing to recommend execution if he unsuccessfully appeals the ruling.
