BANGLADESH: MAN SENTENCED TO DEATH FOR KILLING WIFE

In Bangladesh, the Nilphamari Women and Children Repression Control Court sentenced Babul Hossain (35) to death for killing his wife Lucky Begum (23).  The judge of the said court Mia Muha Ali Akbar Azizi delivered the verdict. The convict Babul Hossain is the elder son of Md Akbar Ali of village Panial Pukur in Sadar upazila of the district.  The other 10 accused in the case were acquitted of the charges as the allegations brought against them were proved to be false.
The acquitted accused are Tajul Islam, Abdur Rashid, Akbar Ali,  Rokeya Begum, Ajma Khatun, Ajajul Haque, Ferdous Ali, Mohammad Jamil, Chhapia Khatun and Nokul.
The prosecution revealed that on May 23, in 2002, Babul Hossain along with some other persons tortured Lucky Begum severely for dowry causing her grievous injuries.  Though she was rushed to Kishoreganj Upazila Health Complex, she died there after some time of the admission.
The father of the victim Md Motiur Rahman filed a murder case with Kishoregani police station accusing his son-in-law and another 10 others the next day.  After a prolonged investigation the police submitted the charge-sheet to the court.
The court after examinig the relevant documents and witnesses awarded him the capital punishment. The special P.P advocate Al Manun Alal confirmed the information to the newsmen.
