BANGLADESH: 11 SENTENCED TO DEATH OVER HABIGANJ FARMER MURDER

A Habiganj court sentenced 11 people to death for killing a farmer at Baghjur village in Baniachang upazila of the district in 2001, reports UNB.
Additional district and sessions judge Mafroza Parveen handed down the verdict, said Abdul Ahad Faruk, addition public prosecutor of the court.
The condemned convicts are Shorafutullah, Romij Ali, Toriqullah, Abdur Rahman, Abdul Mannan, Bachchu Mia, Abdus Salam, Yousuf Ullah, Abdul Motlib, Abdul Hannan and Najibullah.
The court also acquitted 14 other accused of charges, he added.
However, one of the condemned convicts Shorafutullah and three of the acquitted persons died earlier.
According to the case statement, victim Abdul Razzak was hacked to death by some assailants on 29 October 2001 over previous enmity.
Later, Harun Mia, son of the victim, filed a murder case with Baniachang police station accusing 27 people.
