Hands off Cain’s 2015 Report, edited by Reality Book, presents the most important facts regarding the practice of the death penalty in 2014 and the first six months of 2015.
Data shows that China, Iran and Saudi Arabia were the top three “Executioner-Countries” in the world in 2014, , while the top executioners of 2015 (as of 30 June) were China, Iran and Pakistan.
During the event, Hands off Cain will also present the objectives of its ongoing campaign not only against the death penalty, but also against the life sentence, as well as its proposals to strengthen the next Pro-Moratorium Resolution that will be voted by the UN General Assembly in 2016.
“The Abolitionist of the Year 2015” Award, which is promoted by Hands off Cain to recognise the person, who, above all others, has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment in the struggle for a moratorium on executions and the abolition of the death penalty, is conferred this year upon Pope Francis, whose pontificate was inaugurated by the abolition of life imprisonment, and the introduction of the crime of torture in the criminal code of the Holy See.
